EuroMPM Infrastructure

There is a complex network of systems and processes involved running the EuroMPM in Dortmund.

University wide systems

  1. A university wide cluster of systems is used for the registration and administration of students (DIAS, ODS, ... ). These systems are still under development - the student card was the core issue in 2010. These systems are used for example for
    • Registration of students for a study course
    • Control of access rights to IT-systems
    • Registration of students for exams
    • Information of examiners on registered students
    • Submission of check lists for exams to examiners to control the students sitting in exams (name, student no., admission to exam, ... )
    • Submission of tables to examiners to enter marks
    • Intake of marks by examiners - mainly student by student and course by course manually
    • Communication facilities for examiners and student office
    • Transmission of marks to the students office - transaction started by examiners
    • Transmission of results to students by mail - by system
    • Update of student data base on results of exams
  2. ILIAS e-learning patform - since 2009 used in EuroMPM step by step
    • Open for EuroMPM students and EuroMPM lecturers: course materials, case studies, ... - students submit their results in individual directories - lecturers take documents students submitted for evaluation and feedback
    • Open only for lecturers: Files of exams, results of exam, evaluation procedures, ...
    • ILIAS so far is only open for registered and enrolled students - access for applicants is not developed so far - not so easy to manage with respect to access rights and current rules at the university
  3. Web portal of the university
    • General information on university, organization, study courses, application, ....
    • Interested people can use this portal to submit mails to anyone at the university
    • Support of faculty issues very poor

Interfaculty systems

  1. The faculties of business administration and computer sciences jointly operate SAP systems mainly based upon the resources of SAP University Competence Centers - SAP systems are used within EuroMPM

Faculty wide systems

  1. Web portal of the faculty
    • Information on organization of the faculty, time tables (lectures,exams,... ), special events, cancellation of lectures, lecturers, ...
    • Registration of students for selected courses (not used in EuroMPM)
  2. Novell network for staff and students (very important in the past - now often replaced by ILIAS)
    • Course materials
    • Transfer directories for students

EuroMPM systems

  1. Main Web portal of EuroMPM Dortmund - most important for applicants, main portal for foreigners - mentioned at DAAD - core information on course structure, course schedule, ... - students cannot contribute to this portal - the course director manages this portal - and the links to corresponding portals of the partner universities of the EuroMPM
  2. Wikispaces
    • EuroMPM.Wikispaces.com - mainly for news, special events, exam schedule, ... - with contributions of registered EuroMPM students - important also for joint courses with partners from foreign universities - managed by the course director
    • InternationalResearchConference.Wikispaces.com - Web portal for selected EuroMPM conferences - managed by the course director
    • further Wikispaces specially to develop EuroMPM in a protected environment - managed by the course director
  3. EuroMPM in ILIAS - some standards for EuroMPM
  4. EuroMPM in DIAS, ODS, ...
  5. EuroMPM in Novell directories - on the way to move to ILIAS until 2012

Further systems

  1. Since 2010 EuroMPM students use Facebook to communicate among each other - all students are involved - also important for students from foreign partner universites of the EuroMPM to prepare their studies in Dortmund
  2. Microsoft Project Servers are available
  3. Special servers are used to support simulation, ...
  4. Moodle running in Bilbao and Trondheim in place of ILIAS in Dortmund - transfer of course materials difficult - Wikispaces often prefered
